The creation of City of Cape Town group was to initiate alignment between the development of the city and its successes. The main objective was to capture the public imagination about the future Cape Town and assemble stakeholders around these shared vision. These would enable the city to manage its growth as well as lead change in the years to come.
Job creation, reducing poverty and monitoring inequities are some of the group's social responsibilities. The city is currently trying to provide a bottom- up approach to economic development. The motto "the city works for you", speaks itself of its effort to reach the envisioned development. Even though the government has delegated authority to the locals of the development of the cities, there are many obstacles faced by the local authorities, such as lack of capacity within municipalities, as well as resources.
The economic development strategy created by the city is led fore mostly by developing its infrastructure. The development of the city would not benefit economically but also socially to the city.
The growing population in the city has raised the growing need of waste management. The city has taken under its wings to minimize waste in the city, and these actions have directly impacted the environmental policies. Many new technological advances have been incorporated for the success of these programs.

20 Centres
The FIFA world cup official campaign will be conducted within the framework of the Football for Hope Movement. 20-Centres were built in twenty different cities across Africa. Football for Hope's key strategy is to create alliance between FIFA and street football world. Its main commitment is to improve social change in South Africa. Creating HIV/Aids awareness, literacy, gender equality is some of the goals in brief. The goal is to improve education and public health in rural South Africa and plans to grow with its communities long after the games are played.
The goal of "20 Centres is to raise funds to construct these Hope centers. The estimated budget for this is around 10 million. The fund release started in 2008, FIFA has taken the lead in assisting with the fund raise, by sponsoring $ 500 per goal scored during the FIFA qualifying series an estimately 1 million was received through FIFA. Also the football fans around the world has shown tremendous support by contributing to "20 Centres for 2010".
The centers developed through these funds would each feature a mini pitch, along with class rooms and facilities to provide the needed social services. The 20-Centres are planned to be built in twenty different cities across Africa. So far eight hope centers are built. The goals of these centers have been achieved through integrating education, health, social through football, a common language spoken by everyone. Focus of some of these centers has been to, empower girls and young women to strengthen their self-esteem, promote leadership, volunteer counseling and training to overcome ethnic diversity.
Also a key focus of the centers is also to overcome the epidemic that is influencing the African's lives in every aspect. The program has taken a strong leadership role in creating awareness of HIV/AIDS. They have created the importance of leading a healthy life style through their football programs. Also the centers are providing assistants to individuals with special needs and disabilities.
Q1: How has these centers created to this program reached the rural population in bringing awareness to epidemic such as AIDS , does any for the soccer players attend seminars / or in these programs to motivate the younger generations
Q2: Has the SA government considered affiliating others sports and its players to sponsor these centers (Rugby / cricket ) , specially the cricket world cup ?
Q3: How broad would the program would prefer to expand their vision in social responsibility. (Ex : Are you planning create a research center along with these development centers for future studies )
Nederburg
