The Hilton Kuching hotel, just 25 minutes from the airport, has a business center and 9 meeting rooms for 2-750. From Hilton Rooms up, all rooms have high-speed internet access and a desk. Executive Rooms offer Executive Lounge.

An interview was made with the Human Resourse Manager of Hilton Kuching, Mr Peter Simson and information was given regarding the hotel's vision and mission, goals and objectives, internal organizational factor factors as well as nature and structure of the hotel.

Mr Peter Simson explain each character of HILTON stands for it own values:

H HOSPITALITY - We are passionate about delivering exceptional guest experiences.

I INTEGRITY - We do the right thing, all the time.

L LEADERSHIP - We are leaders in our industry and in our communities.

T TEAMWORK - We are team players in everything we do.

O OWNERSHIP - We are the owners of our actions and decisions.

N NOW - We operate with a sense of urgency and discipline.

Vision and mission of the organization

Vision is a statement which is short and others slightly more elaborate. Vision of Hilton hotel is to fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality. This vision is to provides a dream that the employees and management need to seek and work for and it provide a sense of pride, sense of belonging and also clear direction to steer the organization in future. Mr Peter Simson add that the vision of the organization was spelled out by top management to gain sound consensus that is desirable and achievable and also motivate the employees to work together towards the set direction.

Mission of the organization is to be the preeminent global hospitality company with the first choice of guests, team members and owners alike. When we look at the mission of the organization, this statement translates the vision of the organization closer to reality and defines the basic reason for Hilton to setting up the business through out the world. The mission statement of an organization should also describe the firm's products, market and technology in a way that reflects the values and priorities of the strategic decision makers.

Goals and objectives

Same as other organization, Hilton also has sets the direction in which the company is going, the organizational goals and objectives show the results which the organization seek to achieve. The purpose of setting the goals is to help organizations translate what to achieve in striving for the corporate mission. As such, goals of an organization would indicate the aspects of survival, efficiency, effectiveness and profitability.

Goals of Hilton hotel is to focus on key environmental commitments. First, reduce energy consumption from direct operation by 20%, reduce Co2 emissions by 20%, reduce output of waste by 20% and also reduce water consumption by 10%. As a global business serving more than a quarter billion guests a year in more than 3000 hotels across 74 countries, the goals of the organization is to make a difference environmental, social, cultural and economical from other hotels.

Hilton focus on environmental commitment because they belief that the population growth and global industrialization are accelerating the depletion of the natural resources and demand for energy continues to grow and fresh water scarcity is becoming a global reality around the world and the organization respond to these challenges will determine the sustainability of their future lifestyles, the sustainability of their communities as well as ultimately the sustainability of the planet.

Besides that, in order to meet the growing demand of customer, the organization must delivering unsurpassed levels of hospitality, including a better night's sleep, an enhanced dining experience and more productive meeting. Mr xxxx also add that they must operate their business in ways that provide for their current needs while allowing future generations to meet their own needs.

Despite the short-term goals that mention above, the organization also has committed to focus on several long-term and high-impact goals that offer significant long-term benefits. Sustainable buildings and operation, including the advancement of sustainable design and construction operations, chemical management and purchasing will be one key area. Hilton also committed to the advancement of renewable energy as a source of power for its operations,not only to reduce its carbon footprint but to develop a viable commercial infrastructure for powering hotels and corporate offices.

The objectives of Hilton will specific what to achieve by the manager at the functional level while the organizational goals are generally set at the business levels. As such, goals and objectives are differentiated in terms of the specificity and timeliness of what to achieve by the organization.

Hilton Hotels Corporation has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability with several projects that currently are underway. Energy and water consumption reduced by 10% in two years times. Introduction of carbon-free electricity will reduced Co2 emissions in participating Hilton hotels by more than 64,000 tons and make Hilton Hotel the cleanest power generating technologies available after the installation of a commercial fuel cell power system.

In addition, Hilton Hotels Corporation is supporting its portfolio of commitments in a number of ways by:

* Building out educational and engagement programs for all brands and team members, including online learning, centralized web content, and various training modules.

* Measuring and reporting on our progress. The internal environmental management tool used within company-managed hotels will be extended to all properties, allowing us to track and report on our commitments and design processes and programs that identify areas of opportunity to drive innovation and efficiencies.

* Revising brand operational, and design and construction standards for 2009 to ensure both internal and external best practices are shared, adopted and transparent around the globe.

* Evaluating all current and future purchasing policies and practices across the brands to ensure that the range of products placed in hotels not only enhance the guest experience but drive value for owners while supporting the company's overall sustainability efforts.
