Abstract

In researching the subject of evidence-based policing, some philosophies will elaborate on the scientific police management evaluation. The police work of fighting crime is not an easy task and requires many strategies, techniques and skills. To find the way to a certain problem police use their evidences to conduct a research to try to solve it. By experimenting with their case problems, they can find out if certain approach to the problem does work or does not.

The one of the advantages of evidence-based policing is that it designs to help fight crime. Evidence-based policing is design to find the best available solution to the problem and give other police officers in other units the information on how to deal with that problem. It creates certain rules and guidelines and sharing with other enforcement agencies.

Evidence-based Policing

One advantage of the evidence-based policing is that it is structured to help reduce the crime rate. Evidence -based policy also help to structure the law enforces thinking and approach. In a noted police researcher Sherman (1998) was "Evidence-Based Policing: Policing Based on Science. Not Anecdote." It is important to remember that the word evidence refers to scientific evidence, not criminal evidence (Schmalleger, 2011. The disadvantage, since the policy is structured to be based off of evidence and not some of the enforcers own opinion, then people may be less opinionated. However, some law enforcement officers or first observer opinions should be heard in some instances, such as what observation they observe about the surrounding, victim, or suspect that did not fit the evident. Then other personal opinion of biases should not be spoke of or shown.

One example of evidence -based policing, a by-stander seen home invasion was committed with a brick and tire iron and a couple of men were attacked during the robbery. The detectives made contact with me and asked if I had washed the clothes my son was wearing the night the crime took place, I replied no and they asked if they could come and get them for evidence. The detectives than arrived at my home and found the clothes my son described to them, they laid them out on the bed and took pictures of the items and listed them out in the report. They stated they were sending them off to the lab to see if the clothing had any blood on them. We were told that if nothing was found on the clothing that we could get them back after the case is completed. At the scene a tire iron was found and the police stated that it would also be sent off to the lab to see if they could lift finger prints off of that to see who the prints would match. No finger prints were lifted off of the tire iron and no blood was found on the clothing so, there was no evidence other than the confessions.

Another example of Evidence-based Policing would come into action during a spousal abuse case. The scientific evidence that would be used during a trial for conviction would be DNA, Crime scene pictures, pictures of victim injuries, and victim's statement. When a spousal abuse has occurred, the victim is taken to the hospital to have medical an examination completed and documented by a professional victim circumstances. DNA processing it is entered into a large database to be sure he was here. Now, the suspect was not on the scene when police arrived. According to the victim statement, he had only hit her once before, about a year and half ago. This time was the worst. The victim looks like she is missing a tooth and has big smelling over her right eye. Victim wants him to be picked up and locked up for beating her. He is not normally like that; he is even tempered. We have not been having problems per say, but he been under stress from his job. He works for an Advertising Marketing Firm for a few years and had a big client he expecting to do business with. In the process get a promotion out of it. However, they did not like his slogan and went with someone else. The firm was displeased and put him on probation. This night they got into an argument, cannot remember which conversation started it, but what I said late it when I was pushed to the floor. I said loudly, what is wrong with you, when he started to beat me. After questioning victim for the possible arrest of her husband, she is not sure she wants him arrested. He will lose his job for sure. If the suspect does not have any others
