The French Revolution was caused, in many ways, off the enlightenment ideas of the time. Some of the main ideas of the enlightenment included human rights and equality. Human rights and and equality were some of the main ideas the revolutionary people of France had for their new government.

Thomas Pain published this document declaring the need for change in the French government system. However, not unlike many other enlightened thinkers during this time Paine agreed that the French revolutionaries where taking a much more radical approach to the revolution then need be. Pain used the Glorias Revolution in England as an example of the way change should be made. Paine agreed with the non violent change in goverment polocy that took place in England with the Gloryas Revolution.
