An enterprising system also known as enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, is a system that uses intergraded software modules and a common central database for collecting company wide data. The data is collected from the many departments, divisions, as well as areas of manufacturing and key business process. This style of system makes the information available to support almost if not all the companies internal business activities. In essence, an information enter into this system is immediate available to all of its business processes.

 How does effectively implementing and using enterprise systems contribute to achieving operational excellence?

These systems help companies allowing firm wide communication and access to aid in management decision making. It also allows the firm to increase its operational efficiency. Larger corporations that may have vast operating units, such as a company like Wal-Mart, all operating in various regions use enterprising systems to enforce company policy and practice. This allows the company to operate at its best efficiency because all the stores will share in the same method in dealing customer needs, customer services, ordering details, and many other applications where the company has to be in compliance with one another. When a large company of this nature works together in its many sales the customers and stock holders all benefit.

 What challenges are posed by enterprise applications?

The only drawback to these applications, they are difficult to implement. They require an extensive overall change, many investments in software and programming, and careful finding in which ways the systems will enhance the organization of the company. The system can only provide the desired results if the system has a proper foundation, and this is why a total overhauling is need in the firm. All employees will also have to be retrained on the new system to ensure compliance in the system use across the board. It is not an overnight renovation, but one that will vastly improve the company's worth.
