Not too many people have what it takes to be an entrepreneur. There are certain characteristics you need to have to be a successful entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs put in many long hours and work through anything while building their business. They don't let anything stand in their way. They work through their sick time, put in a lot of overtime, and don't depend on others.

Many people who become entrepreneurs are people who don't like having a boss and working under someone. They want to be the leader and have the authority. They think that they can do the job better and often times do. They want self-control over themselves and the company. The freedom is theirs when they are the ones who have the authority, ideas, and goals.

One characteristic that is much needed to be successful as an entrepreneur is having self-confidence. If you are starting a business you need to believe in yourself, your concepts, and your objectives.

Along with wanting to be in control entrepreneurs also have a huge sense of urgency. It is important to get things done, timely and efficiently. They don't like when time is wasted but on the other hand, they have the freedom to manage their time as they please. "They prefer games in which their own brawn and brain directly influence the outcome and pace of the game" (Profile of an Entrepreneur). This being said entrepreneurs are very goal oriented people who strive to succeed no matter what the cost.

Comprehensive awareness is important to have if you want to be a successful entrepreneur. This means being able to handle and comprehend complex situations, being able to multitask and figure out planning, make decisions, and work on multiple things at once.

Entrepreneurs are people who are very realistic. It is critical for them to take information given to them and make decisions based off that alone. They want answers and will verify them before making any decision. They are known to say what they mean and trust others too much without ever being suspicious.

Conceptual ability is also an imperative characteristic to posses. Being a natural leader, it is easy for entrepreneurs to identity a problem and quickly come up with a solution to fix it. They don't get nervous when confronted with complex situations and they are typically very confident about their decisions. If the solution they come up with doesn't work they simply just find an alternative way to fix it.

Many entrepreneurs are very proud of the business they have built and the success it has. Many successful entrepreneurs however are very humble as well. While having egos, they don't let it stand in the way of questions they may have or needing guidance.
