Case Study: JIT at Arnold Palmer Hospital
1 In this case since it is opened at the beginning of an operation the best thing to do
is order another packet . Another one should be ordered as soon as possible.
Since the system orders them based on use it should recognize that the item
needs to be replaced
2 The can reduce the amount of packs held in inventory. They could also look
at reducing the amount of time they take to handle their issues. If they handle
them immediately it will increase efficiency.
3 An example is how the inventory is linked to how much space and how many
items are used. This is how they order stuff. Scheduling medical packs
when necessary is an indispensable system.
4 Since the hospitals budget will be affected by this change I would recommend
the change be done very carefully. It should be evaluated very closely by
the department before it is done
Upon initial analysis, a total of 3.19 minutes per board manufactured is loss during the inspection and final test processes. With a typical run of 75 boards per order, there is a total time used of 223.89 minutes for the inspection and final test phase that if reduced could be used to produce an additional 23.56 boards per run. The time alone spent on the inspection and final testing phase is not the only issue preventing production from reaching its output goal of 1000 units. Quality and consistency in the production process is also having an impact. The case study states that 20% of the boards produced out of a typical run are scrapped because they do not pass inspection (Jacobs, 2011). On a typical 75-board run, that is 15 boards per order and with the ability to run 12 orders per day equals 180 boards scrapped. This is a considerable impact to the overall output of the production line
