Opinion Piece

After conducting this experiment it has opened my eyes, to recognize how the internet has a high influence in people's beliefs or opinions. The media has a great impact on society. The media is a good tool where opinions are modeled. The experiment that I performed dealt with the topic of Pearl Harbor. My partner and I received various links and informational websites. I received websites dealing with all facts of both sides of the issue. The websites opened me to both thoughts and portrayals of Pearl Harbor. As for my partner she received information that depicted a bad image of Japan and hinted how inhumane they were. With censorship applied by the state can create people to view things that the government wants them to think is right. For example in my partners case they want her to see how Japanese were savages for attacking our homeland. Insisting to hate those of Japanese decent for doing such brutal deed. I agree that there should be a transparency between the state and the people, many individuals would not be able manage or keep sane with certain information revealed. Such as the myth or fact of Area 51. If society only knew that such place existed and there are other extraterrestrial beings out there, then it would create chaos and panic for people. There is certain information that should be kept private to keep order. Also if media were used to convey the darker side of the world of politics then politicians might be forced to make decisions that appeal to the public which will only cause a hiatus until everyone gets what they want from politics. Withholding certain information is good, however, to keep information from the public to only expand the government's beliefs is a violation. Governments should not have control over what the people think or what they can do. It should be the other way around. The people should be able to have the creativity to enact on their own beliefs and opinions. If media is already creating the ideas for us, then what is the purpose of the right side of our brain? Even though it has a positive side, it is mostly used by governments in an improper manner. Which is to dull the mind and to fall for the ideology of those men, who hide their true intention towards office. It may seem as protection for the people but it can harm society by not allowing us to think for ourselves and have a set ideological path of our own, which is what helps society to grow and become more diverse.
