Comparing and contrasting a performance cycle node and a link is simple because the performance cycle nodes and links are two very distinct parts making up a performance cycle. The operational locations that are linked by information and transportation are referred to as nodes. A performance cycle node is the operational location in the cycle. Nodes are the organizations that are involved in the supply chain. It is at the facility nodes that work related to logistics occurs. Within nodes, inventory is stocked or flows through the node, requiring a variety of different types of material handling and at least limited storage. It is at and between supply chain nodes that work related to logistics is performed. Examples include manufacturing plants, distributors, and warehouses. Performance cycle links interconnect the different nodes in the cycle to create a clear flow of material in the supply chain. Examples of links are transportation links and communication/information links. (Bowersox, D., Closs, D., & Cooper, BM)

In example, when a customer purchases online from Dell Computer, the supply chain includes the customer, the Dell's Web site that takes the customer's order, the Dell assembly plant, and all of Dell's suppliers and their suppliers. The Web site provides the customer with information regarding pricing, product variety, and product availability. After the customer has made their selection, the customer can enter the site to check the status of the order if they choose to. Further up the supply chain Dell uses customer order information to fill the order. That process involves an extra flow of information, product, and funds between various stages of the supply chain. Through ordering off a website you have just dealt with the supply chain nodes and transportation links and communication/information links. The Web is very vital tool for Dell Computer supply chance. (http://www.dell.com)
