EZ-Pleeze Task One

Company Description

A. Describe the organizational culture of EZ-Pleese.

EZ-Pleese Food Company is a public hierarchy organization headquartered in Statestown, Illinois.  Mr. Tim Burnes, the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), was a produce farmer for over twenty-five years, using that experience he started his operations in the early 2000’s.  A hierarchy organizational culture is primarily internal and focuses on structure, control, and stability (Cameron, n.d.).  A few years after the company went public, they experienced a downturn in the market.  The organization decided it needed to make some changes to remain competitive.  As described in The Competing Values Framework, EZ-Pleeze Food Company is results oriented and values competition, so they began looking outward to increase their competiveness while maintaining stability and control internally (Cameron, n.d.).

A1. Discuss the appropriateness of the current mission statement for EZ-Pleese.

A great mission statement should be clear in describing the company’s product or service, the buyer’s needs, who they plan to market the product or service to, an approach on how to please the needs of the buyer, and create an identity for themselves.  The mission statement of EZ-Pleeze is not fully appropriate to the description of what makes a great mission statement.  EZ-Pleeze identifies themselves and clearly describes the products and services offered.  They plan to provide the highest quality products and customer service, which shows how they plan to please the needs of the buyer.  However, the statement does not sufficiently identify who they plan to market the products, nor how they plan to market the products or services (Western Governors University [WGU], n.d.).

A2. Discuss the appropriateness of the current vision statement for EZ-Pleeze.

An effective vision statement should be a non-generic, feel-good statement that is specific to the particular organization with a long term goal or challenge (Hitt, Hoskisson, Ireland, 2015).  The vision statement of EZ-Pleeze is appropriate and fits the needs for an effective vision statement.  It is clear in the long term goal and challenge of becoming one of the top three producers of corn and potatoes and to grow throughout the United States and the world.  In reading the statement it is very specific to the organization and has a positive outlook (Western Governors University [WGU], n.d.).

Strategic Decision-Making Structure

B. Describe the structure of the strategic team at EZ-Pleeze.

Tim Burnes is the CEO and founder of EZ-Pleeze Food Company.  The CEO is the highest-ranking executive, primarily responsible for formulating and implementing major business decisions.  The CEO also manages the overall operations and resources of the company.  He must influence the planning of the company by setting the tone and making sure to remain aligned with the business mission statement and vision statement (Western Governors University [WGU], n.d.).

Brian Jansen is the Chief of Operations (COO) of EZ-Pleeze Food Company.  According to the Organizational Chart, the COO reports to the CEO and shares the same level of leadership as the Chief Financial Officer according to the Organizational Chart.  The COO of a company oversees the business operations by providing leadership that reflects the mission and vision statements, as well as, oversees the Director of Marketing, Director of Manufacturing and Production, and Director of Research and Development.  He should also formulate and implement plans that allow the company to achieve the business goals and objectives (Western Governors University [WGU], n.d.).

Karen Haley is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of EZ-Pleeze Food Company.  The Organization Chart shows the CFO reports to the CEO and shares the same level of leadership as the COO.  The CFO is generally responsible for managing the financial planning, cash flow, financial reports and financial risks of a company, along with, overseeing the Audit and Compliance Staff.  The CFO should formulate and implement plans that allow the company to achieve the financial goals and objectives (Western Governors University [WGU], n.d.).

John Kerrington is the Director of Marketing for EZ-Pleeze Food Company.  The Director of Marketing reports to the COO and shares the same level of leadership as the Director of Manufacturing and Production and the Director of Research and Development.  The Director of Marketing is generally responsible for overseeing the marketing campaigns, branding aspects and the marketing staff.  A Director of Marketing should formulate and implement plans that allow the company to achieve the business goals and objectives (Western Governors University [WGU], n.d.).
