Organizational behavior and communication are important in any situation. To have a successful business the organization's behavior and communication with internal and external components play a vital role. There must be open and honest communication for an organization to survive. This practice is important and apparent in the American Red Cross. Communication is fundamental in creating an efficient work environment. An organization must have a vision and mission statement that expresses the organizations goals and core values. Goals and core values are the foundation for which an organization follows. This lays the ground work and foundation for the employees and volunteers of an organization.
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers (American Red Cross Los Angeles Region, 2010). The American Red Cross helps disaster victims, teaches prevention, teaches preparedness, and responds to emergencies. With these demanding needs good organizational behavior and open communication are a must. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the American Red Cross is empowering people to perform extraordinary acts in the face of emergencies (American Red Cross, 2012). Good communication and behavior skills are needed in all levels of communication with the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross was founded on fundamental principles. These principles are humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality (International Committee of The Red Cross, 2012). Each of these principles is upheld by the organization, members, and volunteers.
The common goal among The American Red Cross, members, and volunteers is to bring people together and help others in need. This organizational culture is apparent among the organization, the employees, and the volunteers each time they are called upon to help in a disastrous situation. An individual's perception of the American Red Cross is one of honesty and trust. The employees and volunteers of the American Red Cross have ethical and moral standards. While individuals of the organization make up the American Red Cross it is a team effort in creating an organizational culture that individuals can be proud to be a part of.
