Case Study Positive Reinforcement

After reading the case study on Doug and the goals that his teacher Mr. Mc Grady has set for him I think out of all the strategies there are to choose from I feel that Choice Making would benefit Doug the most. The Case study states that Doug loves science and hands-on activities. He also likes using the computer to play games and that his interest are dinosaurs and robots( The IRIS Center for Training Enhancements, n.d.).

Making our own choices is part of our personal development and a child's choice making opportunities need to be structured from an early age which creates a foundation for critical thinking, increased problem solving abilities and increasing independence. The teacher could offer structured choices like you can make the choice of doing you work at your desk or you may do your work on the class computer. When the class is reading the teacher can have the class to act out the story with each child having a part to act out. With math the teacher could make a game of the lesson and have each child a player or have teams. This will pull Doug into the game and part of a team. It will make the lesson fun and easier to learn. There are so many educational games out there to choice from or give him extra time to finish a work page. His interest are dinosaurs and robots, so find books with pictures of these things to encourage him to read or get help to read about dinosaurs and robots.

After we decided what strategy would best work for this child I would then plan my lessons around what that child may be able to accomplish at that time. When that child accomplished one of his goals I think that they should be rewarded. I will set realistic rewards that t I know I can provide. One would be to give that child extra time on the computer with selected games for
