God Called My Granny Home

It is amazing how many things we take for granted on a day to day basis. We make plans for the day, and don't think twice about how those plans can be taken away in the blink of an eye. I never thought much about it myself, until I was faced with the shock, and undeniable truth of my Granny's sudden death. I don't think anyone really thinks about tragedy until they are actually faced with that shocking news.

For weeks, I had planned for my two younger children, who at the time lived with their Dad in Wisconsin, to visit in Chicago. The Christmas holiday was approaching fast and I wanted my children to spend that time with close family. My Granny had been asking to see them for quite some time now and I wanted to make her day by having them present. Finally, my children were in Chicago and the look on my Granny's face when she seen them was priceless. I was very happy to be able to make them happy.

The following day the kids, other close family members, and I were visiting my Granny again. She seemed to be full of excitement and joy. She was just talking and planning ahead on what she wanted to do and cook for the Christmas holiday. Her favorite thing to cook for her entire family was a traditional burger called "The DooWop Burger". On that particular day, she also had a doctor's appointment to attend and was actually waiting for the ambulance service to pick her up. As I think back, she was so beautiful, glowing and filled with happiness.

We continued to talk as a family would until she got the call that the ambulance service was outside and ready for her. As she prepared to leave out the door in her wheelchair, the kids, including my own, say goodbye in a ripple effect, one after the other. I remember her turning around to them and telling them that she would be back. Not even, 5 minutes later, we were called outside because she was having complications inside of the ambulance truck. My family started to panic because we were scared to see the future outcome. She was rushed to the hospital and minutes later, we got the call that seemed to destroy my heart. She didn't make it.

I was overwhelmed with all of the emotions that rushed to me at one time. I couldn't understand what just happened so quickly. Moments ago, she was so vibrant and happy and in a blink of an eye, she was gone. Seeing her in the hospital bed lifeless is an image that I thought would hunt me for the rest of my life, but I don't picture her that way. I see her vibrant and smiling as I remember. Things happen in life for a reason and although I feel like she left this earth too soon, I know that she is in a better place.
