The American Red Cross

The culture of the organization consists of ordinary individuals who have the desire to do extraordinary things. As an organization it embraces and celebrates diversity and impartiality, with the common bond of humanity that unites the organization, not just in the face of emergencies and disasters, but in helping neighbors every day (American Red Cross Culture).

Just like any other organization The American Red Cross has the necessity to maintain appropriate internal communication with its branches, staff and employees, since this type of communication is an essential feature of an organization's administrative structure. In this organization the Human Resource Department it is in charge of maintaining good channels of internal communication. The central organization or corporate office keeps its branches well informed of new policies and policy changes to maintain an uninterrupted flow of internal communication. In the organization the employees are motivated and exposed to the business objectives and ethical ideas of a company so that they get an involvement in the work they do. This is done in many forms, such as face - to - face casual conversations, formal meetings, phone calls, emails, and memorandums. The organization informs its people well in advance of even the simple shifting of the canteen and a re-adjustment of the lunch-breaks and/or tea-breaks. In turn, employees should be able to inform people at the higher levels of their organization of their grievances, expectations and difficulties. With this type of effective internal communication the organization forms a strong bond between the employees and management, promotes co-operation among different sections in an establishment. It also aids the growth of the organization at a desirable and optimum level, and in short, ensures involvement of all the people without alienating any sections of the organization.

The American Red Cross, external communication helps the organization in keeping its outsourcing agencies like distributors, wholesalers, retailers, donors, and the public in general, well informed about the company's products, services, progress and goals. The organization gets continuously updated with accurate information, maintaining cordial relationships with government agencies, licensing authorities, suppliers, and financial institutions. The organization also uses written media, such as letters, reports, proposals or visual media like posters, advertisements, and e-mails. The organization's external communication is also done through teleconferences, face-to-face meetings, panel discussions or presentations, exhibitions and a variety of other different events.
