Internet and its affect on News and Media
The new means of communication technology has brought accessibility to the online publishing houses and has provided them a convenience of publishing their online articles, news and other materials through online publishing software. Many journalists are making a big use of these advancements. They carry their practices through different open publishing sites in order to have an effective and advanced means of communication. One of the most notable examples includes Indy media, which is promoting a convenient and speedy means of information for the public through which they can easily access news on Internet within no time. Other examples include various weblogs which are providing these journalists a new dimension of media setting.
In this modern age where internet is enjoying great impact over media and news gathering, it has become very common that bloggers and journalists dig out the mainstream news they need from the sites and also present errors in numerous articles which are popular and known among a large number of audiences. Because of this, the general public has become inclined towards more suitable and quick media by the use of which they have started searching for online sources of news and information and also dues to which the traditional ways of news accessing have become least attractive (Constantiou).
There is no gain saying the fact that technologies have made the information gathering easy and expedited that now people don't want to use the traditional means of gathering information due to lack of time and curious behavior for the innovative advancements which make them leaned towards new ways of accessing information and news . The main reason behind the excessive use of internet in the contemporary world is that it has made things easy and trouble free. Now, people do not have to switch on their TV and radio sets or sit to read time consuming newspapers. They have even started accessing internet through their cell phones in which different features like GPRS and internet connectivity is available. These reasons play an important role in the promotion of Internet, which has affected the media and news today greatly (Hietanen and Turpeinen).
Due to these reasons, many traditional media outlets have turned conscious about their settings in the speedy era of news access. As a reactionary response, they have started replying in an appropriate manner by introducing their own online versions on internet. Through these online versions, the public easily access news and can publish their views as a web site post also. Journalists are being hired for scanning blogs and other online sources for making leads on news items. They blog live from the related news areas and collect updates frequently to present them on time. Due to the rapid participation of public in online journalism, the famous news outlets adopt more attractive features in the online versions of their news channels, which show an immense change in media environment (Thurau).
Impact of internet on Media and News:
The reasons why internet has such a strong impact on news reporting and media sciences are notable. There has been a gigantic change noticed in the past several years in media and news for which increasing use of internet can be considered as an important aspect. This was noticed when research methods were observed to be changed, the ways of reporting seen improved and when the information gathering turned easy for the reporters of news. If news is concerned, Internet has a deep impact on news and media as it has rapidly changed the ways journalism. Moreover, it has reduced the hardships which the journalists used to do for collecting news and presenting them. It was started when information of the events began to change in 1980's with the advent of notebook-sized portable computers came in observation. New ways were developed, the reporters started to gather news in the form of pieces which were sent through e-mail by using a phone connection (modem) and later on internet e-mails rather than making a file of news story by the help of a newspaper and through telegraphs and phones. Their ability to research in dept was enhanced by the use of internet. Internet was serving as that technology for them which reduced their problems and making them look easy and accessible. In the past traditional ways of news gathering were used by the reporters. They had to collect data for the background information of any assignment with the use of printed reference works, publications and archives of printed articles usually found in printed form. Also, they had to search for huge public records found in paper form. This process was not easy as it was critical to widen research patterns with the availability of huge data in a printed form. But, by the use of Internet it has become possible that the publications store material electronically and provides it online (Ulin).
United States and Media in 1900's:
Previously, the news and media in United States were interpreted by the people in the form of radio in the early 1900's. People preferred radios for gathering informative news and used it as a source of entertainment also. At that time, News was presented in the form of news flashes on different radio channels. Then, after some years television became on a main stream level along with a prominent development in radio which brought changes in the field of media. Then internet was introduced among people which brought ease and comfort to them. Along with entertainment, people were exposed to various internet features including news and information gathering. After this, there were huge advancements observed in media which made the people to live with more convenience and comfort. Apart from the important use, people started using it as a source of entertainment, social networking and other things, which promoted numerous manifestations of the technology in their lives (Fellow).
Impact of internet on Television and Entertainment industry:
As noticed in the contemporary world, people distribute their time in different entertainment activities. Watching television, whether for entertainment or for information, is the best thing to do in leisure hours. According to a study, people in Latin America, with ages 12 to 64 watch TV for 4.5 hours a day. This includes 18.8% of the total time they spend on watching television. Television is considered as one of the new technologies among all as it has provided wide entertainment to the people for many years and brought great technological changes in the history of media.
