Key Concepts of Personality Formation

Behavioral theory is known as the behaviorism, theory where education was supported by the thoughts that behaviors are obtained throughout conditioning. Conditioning is the stage that occurs through the interaction with the environment. Classical conditioning is the method used in a person's behavioral training where in natural occurring stimulus are joined up with answer. The previous neutral stimulus will evoke the response without the presence of the naturally occurring stimulus (conditioned stimulus and conditioned response). The operational conditioning is when a person's learning occurs through rewards and punishments for his or her behavior. In this conditioning process an association is created between the behavior and the consequences for the behavior.

Cognitive theory deals with the development of person's thought processes and the processes will influence how a person understands, and interacts with humanity. Jean Piaget believed the cognitive theory helped describe the cognitive development of children; cognitive development entails the changes in the cognitive processes and abilities.

There are four major concepts regarding the cognitive theory, which are the schemas, assimilation, accommodation, and equilibration. The schemas will describe a person's mental and physical actions involving a person's understanding and knowing. Schemas are knowledgeable types that help people interpret and understand the world. Piaget view of the schemas includes the types of knowledge and the process of obtaining knowledge. When experiences occur, new information will be used to modify previously existing schemas. The assimilation is the process of taking new information into a person's previously existing schemas (assimilation). A person is inclined to modify experiences somewhat to fit in with a person's preexisting beliefs. The accommodation is the part of the adaptation process involving changing a person's existing schemas in light of new information. Accommodations involve altering existing ideas, resulting in new information or experiences and new schemas must be developed through this process. The equilibration is Piaget believes that children will gain balance between assimilation and accommodation. As children grow through the cognitive stages, it is important to uphold a balance between applying earlier knowledge and changing behavior to account for new knowledge. The stages of cognitive theory are sensor motor, preoperational, concrete operational, the formal, and the support , and criticism of Piaget stages.

The social cognitive theory is proposed by Albert Bandura, which explains that a great deal of a person's behavior in reference to other people will be needed through observational learning. The social cognitive theory is when people will learn by observing others, learning is an inside process
