My name is CJ Gunman. I was born and raised in Brooklyn New York. Despite living in a lower class neighborhood around people that don't care about their lives, I've made a name for myself and got accepted into a private University in which I hold a 3.0 GPA. I will be joining the University of John Jay in New York, New York at the beginning of September 2012 to get a masters degree in Criminal Justice. Culture is the way of life of people. It is the human created strategies for adjusting to their surroundings and to those creatures that are part of those surroundings. Ever since the beginning of time, culture has been used by every human species from different parts of the world to express who they are and what they value. Each and every country has their own type of social relativity whether it relates to the initiator, the observer, or the recipient of that behavior. As an American, I always recognize our country's social values and cultural standards. In my opinion most of our cultural values such as dialect, music, arts, social habits, cuisine, and folklore have originally been used by Western European countries. Many are our cultural standards are Eurocentric. Today America is an ethnically and racially diverse country as a result of large-scale immigration from many different countries throughout its history. Our culture is always changing because of this.
To me, there are many things that make up real culture in America. I believe the most important thing about us is our desire for freedom. As Americans we have the power to do things many other countries can't do such as pick and choose our education, what we want to wear, what we want to eat, become, how we want to live our lives. Without our desire for freedom, we wouldn't be the most powerful nation in the world. Our democracy is the reason why people from other countries want join our society and be part of our culture. Generalizations and stereotypes have a big impact on the way we behave as Americans. Another example of what makes up American culture is the desire for land, money, and prosperity. Everybody in our culture has the right to pick and choose where we want to live as well as how to make money.
