Section I, No Extra Gun Control Laws

Almost all Americans agree that gun control laws are necessary, but too many laws will infringe on their right as an American. Stronger gun control laws interfere with the people of the United States from being able to experience an important part of being American. This country was founded on the people's right to bear arms to prevent a government take-over. The people of the United States use their right to bear arms for many reasons. Hunting and other shooting sports are a way of life for some Americans. Self-defense is a necessity and a right for all Americans. The second amendment gives the American people the right to bear arms.

This great country was founded and created because of the people's rebellion against the government. The people could rebel because they could create their own militias. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."(U.S. Constitution, Amend. II) This amendment itself has been the target of many debates. It gives the right to the people to keep and bear arms. The argument asks, "Who are the people?"

Gun owners say that they are the people. These same people agree with gun control, but with freedom still in the forefront. These gun owners use these guns as a symbol of being an American; they use them for a living in many prosperous ways; and they use them to protect their homes. Americans support this right to bear arms for many reasons that are viable and in some cases necessary. Many of these same gun owners are also proponents of more strict punishment on crimes committed with guns. The American gun owners cannot be stereotyped as violent, war craving murderers. They are people who experience American freedom. They want to experience American freedom to hunt, participate in shooting sports, and defend their home.

Hunting is a way of life for many people in the United States. There are laws that regulate and encourage hunting. The animal population would run rampant without assistance from the government and hunters. There are seasons and limits set on hunters that help keep the environment in balance. This is also a source of food for the families that hunt. This system encourages responsibility, safety, and working for a goal for adults and youth. The young hunters learn that everything can't be done for them, but work and studying their prey can feed them. It also teaches the youth about the value of life. Not only does this teach life lessons, but simple target competition can teach winning a losing.

Not all people interested in sports like basketball and football. Many people have found their competition urges satisfied through target shooting. This is even a sport in the Olympics. Shooting for sport is another great way to encourage competition grouped with responsibility and safety.

Lastly, the right to bear arms in one's home gives them to ability to defend their possessions and their family. Where every there is a society, there will be crime. Most people pursue buying a gun for protection rather than committing a crime. The right to defend a home is important and necessary to a family. Most crimes committed with firearms are committed with illegally purchased firearms. This is a problem that both gun control proponents and opponents can agree on. Gun control is necessary, but prohibition is illegal.

Section II, More Gun Control Necessary

Stronger gun laws are necessary for this country to form a more peaceful nation. The crime rate of gun related crimes is very high in the United States. It can be said that the Second Amendment of the Constitution "(1) is obsolete; or (2) is intended solely to guard against suppression of state militias by the central government and therefore restricted in scope by that intent; or (3) does not guarantee a right that is absolute, but one that can be limited by reasonable requirements. They ask why a private citizen needs any firearm that is not designed primarily for hunting or other recognized sporting purposes." (Krouse, 2002) There are many suicides and murders in the United States because of the ability to keep and carry firearms. More restrictions would prevent this horrible statistic.

The crime rate in the United States in relation to firearms is unbelievably high. "In 2005, 11,346 persons were killed by firearm violence and 477,040 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm. Most murders in the United States are committed with firearms, especially handguns. In 2006, firearms were used in 68 percent of murders, 42 percent of robbery offenses and 22 percent of aggravated assaults nationwide." (Fox & Zawitz, 2007) This is a basic statistic that shows how dangerous and careless the American people are with firearms. More stringent laws could have prevented many of these deaths. Laws could control the use of legal and illegal gun flow within the United States borders. Federal laws are necessary because state laws could not control the flow of guns through each individual state. The federal laws and the Constitution itself should be reviewed to coincide with the new technology and abilities of this time.

The Second Amendment of the Constitution is worded
