Protists have a very distinct variety of themselves. The four different types of protists are Amoeba, Paramecium, Euglena, and Slime Mold. The three different characteristics that will be discussed in this essay are going to be movement, shape, and ingestion.

First, Amoeba move with pseudopods which are basically projections of eukaryotic cells. Paramecium move with cilia which are hair like projections that help it move swiftly through the area. Euglena moves with flagella which is like a whip like tail that keeps it moving fast in the area.

Next the shape of protists can be very unusual sometimes. An Amoeba has no definite shape so you cannot determine the shape of it. The Euglena is an oval shaped protest. The Paramecium is a slipper shaped protist which makes it sort of look like a foot shape. The slime mold also has no definite shape just the like the Amoeba.

Lastly the ingestion of a protist can be much unknown throughout human knowledge since they are kind of like micro organisms. Slime Molds ingest by absorption. Euglena ingest there food with chloroplasts also found in plants and absorption found in the slime mold. The Amoeba ingests by engulfing with their pseudopods. Paramecium ingest with their cilia to oral groove.

Protists are very interesting organisms to study because of all their greatly unique characteristics. Some other characteristics that are interesting topics in protists is response to the environment, the environment found in, group, autotroph or hererotroph, and if they are animal like, plant like, or fungus like. Protists have exquisite characteristics and more study will be made to find out more about the amazing creatures.
