Pythagoras was born in 570 B.C. on an island called Samos. He travelled

widely in his youth, visited Egypt and learned math, astronomy and music. About

530 B.C., he moved to Croton where he set up his groups and worked with his

followers. Among the many mathematical investigations of the Pythagoreans were

the study of odd, even, prime and square numbers. His best work is known as

'Pythagorean theorem,' which is a2+b2= c2, that develops a basic understanding of

mathematics and geometry. The Pythagorean theorem states that the square of the

hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two

sides. There is also a Pythagorean triples, they are the set of positive integers, a, b,

and c the fits the rule a2+b2= c2.

By the way, in spite of its name, the Pythagorean theorem was discovered by an

Indian mathematician Baudhāyana in 800 B.C. However, Pythagoras may have

proved the theorem and popularized in the Greek world. Pythagoras had a great

impact on mathematics, his theories are still used today. Pythagoras is one of the

great thinkers of his time.
