The first article stresses how some companies prefer hiring women for managerial positions instead of hiring men. According to Rochelle Sharpe the writer of the article, women are better leaders than men. Rochelle mentions that there have been studies that support that. Rochelle also mentions that in these studies there were different skills measured between men and women. The studies indicated that women obtained better results than men. Rochelle also says that despite the stereotypes, women are capable of handling jobs as managers.

Compared to Japan the united States has higher percentage of women in managerial roles. Only 4% of Japanese women are hired as managers. On the other hand, in the United States 25 percent of women are hired as managers. Although America has a higher percentage, there is a long way to go in order to recognized that women make good leaders.

According to the text book, Japan is a country with a high context culture. In order for Japanese to do business they have to establish social trust first. They also value personal relations, goodwill and the negotiation are slow and ritualistic". On the other hand, the United States is a low context culture, which means that they like to get to the point when they are doing business. Americans like to seal the business deal with a legal contract.

If I were a business woman considering doing business in Japan, It would be challenging for me because I come from a country that has similarities with Japan and the United States. The first thing I would do is to learn the language and get familiar with the culture. I would do as much as possible to become acculturated. However, I would not let anybody stop me from pursuing a job as a leader.

After reading the article about Japan, I noticed that women face a big diversity problem. The authors mention that in Japan women that are leaders are viewed as unattractive and aggressive. In addition, the authors also mention that women don't realize they have the potential to work as managers and often get discouraged to pursue those kinds of jobs. Women are not promoted to managerial jobs because they have to be in charge of the family and also because of sexism.

The article about the princess in Japan got my attention. According to the author, she had to give up being a princess because she got married with a "commoner". It was obvious she was discriminated against for being a woman. On the other hand, it would not affect her brother if he would have married a commoner.
