Discussion: When it comes to telecommunication network installation and management, as a business manager, you have to make a crucial decision to choose between hiring an expert to do the work or do it yourself.

What criteria should be considered in making that decision?

I would hire a professional to come setup the telecommunication network. As a business manager my focus should be on running the business. The only way I would setup the telecommunication network is if it was a small network. When it comes to the larger networks only a professional will know how to properly set it up and apply the proper security measures to safeguard the network. Another reason why I would hire a professional is because of the warranty that may come with the installation. If something were to go wrong on or with the network, you can call the installation company and they will know exactly how it was setup; therefore making the troubleshooting process easier. The criteria that should be considered in the decision making process is the type and size of network I'm trying to setup, the type of wiring used to link components together, the amount of security that I will need to keep the network secure. Those are just a few things that I would have to take into consideration when it comes to me making the decision if I should do the work myself or source it out to a professional.

I would definitely hire a professional to come in and install the telecommunication network. My knowledge in telecommunication installation isn't close to what I would need to setup the network. Because of the collection of terminals, links and nodes, I feel that someone that is a professional with dealing with those components should be the one that is installing them up. The criteria that should be considered in the making of my decision are installation time must be reasonable, the network must be secure and available only to the allocated personnel, and the equipment used must be reliable. As someone who doesn't have extensive knowledge in this area I wouldn't be able to meet any of the criteria.
