The Transaction Processing System used by Starbucks is also known as the Point of Sales system.

Point of Sale is the location where goods are sold or where transactions occur. It consists of two components such as software and hardware. POS software records all information about transactions and stores it in database and POS hardware used for checkouts.

Point of sales technology in restaurants is the cash register machine which registers all transactions and sends the order to the Kitchen LCD Display. Moreover, POS includes credit card machine which connected with cash register machine. This system are also stores all information in to the database.

Starbucks's menu is keyed to the Point of Sale System, which helps the cashier to navigate through the menu. They can add, remove or check customers order. In addition, this system assist the cashier to manage the customers seats and separate checks.

Also, POS let control inventory right at the cash register with point-of-sale (POS) software systems. POS software records each sale when it happens; therefore, the inventory records are always up-to-date.

With a POS system the Starbucks can analyze sales data, figure out how well all the items on sell, and adjust purchasing levels accordingly.

Features to consider in a POS system include the following:

* Easy to use for employees

* Pricing. POS systems generally offer a variety of ways to keep track of pricing, including add-on amounts, percentage of cost and custom formulas. For example, if the Starbucks provide volume discounts, they can set up multiple prices for each item.

* Updating product information. Once a sale is entered, these systems automatically update inventory and accounts receivable records.

* Security. POS systems provide audit trails so the Starbucks can trace any problems to prevent theft.
