Water Observation

Water use on Bryant campus varies depending on where you are on campus. In terms of what type of water is used on campus, it is safe to say that both tap and bottled water are used throughout the day. I believe Bryant is a pretty environmentally friendly establishment and they do what they can to be green. I found out many things during my observation of Bryant campus as well as myself and the others around me.

In terms of the water situation here at Bryant, water is sold in bottles by Coca-Cola as their Dasani brand. Poland Spring is also sold in the Bryant Center as well a few other types of water. This shows water as a valuable consumer good on campus because it allows a quick and easy purchase and the bottle holds water for you as you go along your day. Bryant also has water bottle refill stations throughout the unistructure that are connected to the tap water in the water fountains. Not only is it quick and easy to refill your bottle, it also keeps count of the number of water bottles it has saved from the environment.

At the Salmonson Dining Hall there are no water bottles for purchase but instead tap water is pumped freely to the fountain soda machine. Also next to the machines, there is a separate machine just for pumping tap water. As I eat dinner I notice that many students actually do drink the tap water during their time at Salmo. Another thing that I observed is that Salmo actually puts out a station that has tap water flavored with fruits in order to enhance taste.

In terms of events on Bryant campus, there are usually big tap water jugs that are placed on a table that are available to all of the attendees of the event. Many organizations use their Salmo meal swipes in order to use the big jugs of water and other drinks. While tap water is used most of the time, there are other circumstances in which the event gives out bottles of small Dasani water.

For the students of the Bryant campus, I have observed that many of the students on campus buy packs of water from local convenience stores or supermarkets. This displays how big of an industry that water is due to the fact that every student has access to free water throughout the campus. While many people still buy bottled water, some students have begun to purchase their own personal water filtration bottles or systems. Brita water bottles are available for purchase many places and they are refillable and reusable. Although the water bottle filters the water, the filter needs to be replaced every so often.

In terms of my own water consumption on campus, I have habits of using tap water mostly and seldom buy water bottles. I own a Brita water bottle that I fill up using the tap water from the sink in my suite bathroom. Before I purchased the filtered water bottle, I was a victim of branding because I would make weekly trips to the supermarket to purchase a pack of Poland Spring water. Since
