  1. Stage of Development

Young adulthood is generally defined as people who are ages 18 to 22 or 18 to 25, or people who are in late teens and early twenties. This stage is considered to be the healthiest time of life because they are generally in good health and is not suffering from any disease. During this stage, people are prone to be critical thinkers, risk takers and more integrated in the cognitive and emotional aspect. They also tend toprefer relationships based on shared values and mutuality, have more respect for diversity, and make thoughtfuldecisions that are based on future consequences and impact on others. The transition to adulthood is a difficult process since the youth have always been dependent on their parents during their childhood years, and being an adult means being able to support own financial needs and emotional independence. People are also tested regarding their roles as a citizen, a wife, a parent, and a worker. This stage can be a period of growth and accomplishment.

  1. Specific Topic – Quarter-life Crisis

According to Arnett’s study on Emerging Adulthood /2007/, he defined Quarter life crisis as the suspected difficulties experienced by growing adults as they try to find a place in the adult world or the real world. There are a number of young adults who, after graduating college, are still undecided on which path to take. These people who undergoes quarter life crisis tend to question their capabilities and are subjected to depression and anxiety. Amelia Hill, a writer for the guardian, said that two in five were worried of not having enough money to sustain either himself/herself or his/her family.

  1. Method

In order to get the necessary data for our presentation, we are planning to conduct a series of interviews or survey with different types of young adults, which include those who have no experience in working for a company but giving more focus to those who have freshly graduated from college. We will also try to get more information from books or online journals. We will focus our report on the transition to adulthood including educational achievement, disconnectedness, employment, as well as family measures and household formation.

  1. Why Did You Choose This Topic or Issue

We chose to research more about this issue because as adolescents who are already near the stage of young adulthood, we might encounter problems like this in the future. We would like to know more about what it feels like to become a young adult, and how to deal with the problems by being familiar with the different ways to resolve them. We want to overcome this difficulty in the easiest way possible, through the tips and help of people we will be conducting an interview or survey with.
