41st Day of the 223rd year

The stoic journey I made through each Egyptian village was one of majestic silence. I greeted no one, was stared at for the strange color of my skin and beautiful garb I wore, and was never once looked at as a man any of the natives could imagine fitting to be a part of their village. They all wore dingy robes, their hair unruly, and their skin baked to wrinkles by the end of their adolescent years. I was thankful for my home back in Greece where there was shade and cool rain in the evening and delectable fruits to dine with.

As much as I enjoyed this part of this small earth, I also felt deeply riled by the lives of each pair of sad eyes that looked in my direction. I saw no story, only a life barely lived having but a few years to dig in the cracked dirt and swirling sand abound. Each village began to look the same but as I marched over the miles, the villages became sparse. I could see yellow, glimmering sand in the distance and nothing else.

I could feel the ancient dirt attached gruesomely to my skin, pasted to me like millions of blood lusting leeches. As the sun set, I prepared my makeshift home and sat down in the sand to watch the sun disappear beyond the sandy hills. I could feel the magick in the air. There was an electrifying power surging through the night sky and I knew I was close.

42nd day of the 223rd year

The world has fallen far below what I can reach and I fear that my duties will soon be cut and someone worthier than me will be taking my place. It happened like a lost breath of fire in the summer months where the wind is fast and nimble. It had been before my very eyes, that which I treasured most. It shimmered in the setting sun like smelted gold and struck me with its magnificent beauty. As I knelt down to claim the gift, which I was certain was placed there by an unknown deity, a subtle whistling began to sing through the air. It grew louder, the harmonious tone bellowing in the dusk. The song was beautiful and I can remember the sweetly abysmal pain that surged through me, pricking through my soft flesh like a sharp blade.

Not until the song's melodious echo ended that I realized that the song had been a mere steel arrow cutting through the sky. I looked down in dismay at the agony cutting my body into fragmented pieces of anguish. I was wary of what to do and while holding myself up, I searched the darkening world around me with savage eyes. There was nothing to be found in the almost night, but I feared that if I did not die from a poison dried to the arrow tip, then there would be many more fatal encounters. I looked back down, knowing my unfortunate fate, and found that the treasure had vanished. I knew the night had won this time and guardedly and slowly walked back to camp.

As I closed in, I saw elongated black shadows ransacking the makeshift home. Though all I could think or feel was the pain burning in the shallow area between two rib bones, I used every ounce of might I could muster to enter the perpetrators' minds. I could barely last a minute and since my guard was down, the shadows became aware that something was wrong and they ran off into the night. They ran not knowing I now knew who they were and what they wanted.

59th day of the 223rd year

In those lonely hours of healing I studied the map I was given to locate the treasure. I look back and realize how stupid I had been. The map clearly stated that once it's been seen it cannot leave the electrifying touch of its finder. While alone in my tent I attempted to locate its next destination as it will always have a fixed path that must be figured out, almost like a puzzle. I have since then narrowed it down to two locations.

The location I decided to travel to first is on the shore of the Nile river. I was aware that the road I was traveling is a deeply treacherous one and so I quickly put an energy shield around me so no eye could see me walking alone on the miles of dusty trail before me. Over the few days I spent walking and camping, I saw the shadow creatures in the distance leaping over sand hills and making odd, high-pitched squealing noises. I had come to the conclusion that when I got so close to them, they could tell and would make their noises and quickly run sprint off.

After the fourth day of traveling, it become very clear that the creatures bound for the same destination as me were not human. They were cloaked under black robes and their fast pace was unrelenting. They made noises that were foreign to me and for the first time I felt afraid that even if I did get to the river first, they would be close behind and not be as clueless as they been before when dealing with me. I will have to move faster.

60th day of the 223rd year

I had quickened my pace and slept only for a few hours the night before. I was determined to track this treasure down and bring it home. It appeared that I would
