A staff reporter for The Metropolitan as committed journalistic fraud by fabricating portions of the news stories. The fabrication and plagiarism represents a betrayal of trust and a low point in the history of this newspaper.
Police investigators, and investigator reporters, have read more than 1200 stories written and published in the past 6 years by Joe Doe; they have found inconsistencies in the location of the story and receipts presented from the reporter.
The investigation is focusing on the most important and recent stories reported by Joe Doe. Investigators are talking with the subjects, and talking with people that know the reporter, they hope to find substantial prove that his accounts of the facts are deceiving and entrusted.
To verify the stories written by Mr. Doe, investigators are interviewing people related to the stories and eyewitness to reports. Investigators are also looking in to bank records, for the misuse of the newspaper credit card, as well to the time, date, and location of this usage.
The Metropolitan, interviewed Joe Doe, as soon as complains from the subjects of the reports were received. After long hours of interrogation newspaper chief executive decided to fire Mr. Doe and have his accounts and benefits frozen pending the results of the investigation.
