Fight club

Tyler Durden isn't a real person? So he was fictional. When you watch the movie (If it's your first time watching it) you will get surprised when you find out, even the narrator gets surprised.  Tyler Durden is a character created by the narrator. All the actions of Tyler Durden, was actually the narrator? It is actually pretty damn cool. Most people don't have the courage to be what or who they actually want to be, the narrator probably wouldn't either if it wasn't for his imaginary friend Tyler. When he was tyler Durden he was who he wanted to be. He had the charisma, confidence and kind of just ran with it. A lot of people kind of do the same thing everyday, creating a person who they want to be, the problem is they don't have the courage. People talk to themselves everyday. The main character is a confused, weird guy with insomnia. He goes to these group meetings, where the people who are there share the same disease or something, but he does not share the same. He acts like he is like them, sick, it helps him with the sleeping and it makes him feel better, kind of pathetic. The main character doesn't like his life, he works at a job he doesn't like in order to buy  things he don't need. This is a perfect symbol of consumerism, he always watches these ikea magazines, and that is pretty much how his life is. The reason why he started fight club is because he wanted to live life, he wanted to feel alive.

The name of the narrator is never really informed to the audience, only at the end in the script where he is referred to as 'Jack' It leaves you wondering. He could kind of be everyone, maybe it's so the one who is watching the movie can relate to the  narrator, in some way. It's like the movie is distanced from the normal life we live everyday. The people we meet in the movie are not the ones we see in our everyday life, in the movie we see people with complicated, hard and depressed lives. It's kind of dark most of the time in the movie, you would connect that with sadness. The narrator is probably sleep walking most of the time, and he doesn't know about it.  It is also said that when you are tired, you start to see illusions, so the fact that he has insomnia might relate to him seeing Tyler Durden so clearly. He also has schizophrenia, which is a disease that causes you to see people, this is another reason he is seeing Tyler.

Marla is such a mystery in fight club. She does the same thing as 'Jack' she goes to these support groups. Her reason for going to these groups are that they make her feel more alive. The narrator doesn't like it, because he know she Is lying about it, like himself. Marla might actually have a disease probably cancer, because she feels so hopeless all the time, and at one point she wanted him to feel her breast to check for lumps, and she can't afford treatment.
