ABSTRACT

Mobile Backup is a work that provides "data insurance" for the contacts stored in your mobile phone. It is a fact of life that mobile phones are frequently lost or damaged. While the phone may be easy to replace, what is often lost for good is the contact information stored on the lost phone. Remobile backup solves this problem by backing up the contact data on the phone and then restoring the contacts to a new (or the same) phone. Remo backup is easy to setup and use. You create an account by entering your phone number and a personal identification number (PIN) on the phone. You start the process by selecting to backup your contacts. Then, the application will automatically check to see if the data on your phone has changed. If changes are found, it will backup the changes. If you ever need your contacts restored, all you have to do is download the application (if not already present on the phone), log into the same account you created, and select "Restore Contacts". With Re-mo-backup, a lost, stolen or damaged mobile phone doesn't mean the loss of valuable contact information. Re-mo-backup easily saves your mobile phone contacts and then restores them giving you peace of mind for just pennies a day. Backup and restore your contacts at any time on your existing or new mobile phone.

INTRODUCTION

Remobackup wireless applications turn everyday mobile phones into productivity applications. In general, the applications give you access to information on your desktop PC while you are away from the office. Without having to leave your computer on, you can access the information you need while traveling. Important information, such as business or personal Email, contacts and calendar can be viewed and managed via the mobile phone. Whether you are a mobile professional looking for ways to be more productive when away from the office, an individual responsible for wireless projects in your organization, or someone who just likes to stay connected to friends and family, there is a Remo backup application for you.

Overall Architecture

The overall architecture of the Remo backup is shown above. When a mobile user activates a request on his mobile phone, the request would be submitted to the ME server through a URL. Based on the type of request, respective handler class will be instantiated and the appropriate method will be called to service the request. Restore, backup etc, will be happened by comparing the data in the Remoba Database with the data in the ME server.

Features of Application

The Remo backup is to have the below features on the phone.

Login

* The user will log into the service using the phone number of the phone running the J2ME client. Once the user enters his phone number, the system will verify if the use already has an account or if it is a new user. Existing users will enter a PIN to validate themselves; new users will be sent to Registration.

* If the user changes phones, he will have to log in using the phone number and PIN to access his account.

* New users have a new account created from the phone by capturing the phone number, phone type, and a user-entered PIN. These credentials will be stored on in a "Backup Account".

* If the user successfully logs in, the phone/PIN combination will be saved encrypted in a file on the phone and the client will log into the account using these credentials by default for future logins.

After having proper authentication, the main menu of Remobackup will be displayed on the phone screen, from which the user can select the options provided.

Backup Contacts.

Upon selecting this option, the application will then take all the data located in the phone's native phone book and upload the data to Remoba's secure servers. Once the process has been triggered, the application will then automatically check for changes to the contact data any new contacts on the phone will be added to the Backup Account. Any edits to the contacts on the phone will be edited to the corresponding contact in the Backup Account. Any deletes from the phone will result in the contact being deleted from the Backup Account. The backup process will either be triggered manually or through a timer. . The automatic backup process will only occur after the user has at least logged into the application and manually triggered a backup for the first time. Upon completion of a manually triggered backup, the user should be notified how many contacts were affected, how they were affected. Also how many contacts in total are in the Backup account:
