National, State, and Local Human Service Organizational Structures and Process

Organizational structures and process is a way of defining how information is controlled and how information flows through management. Organizational structures and process is a way of defining how information is controlled and how information flows through management. The paper will include the organizational structure, the agencies departments, divisions, and specific areas of program delivery. The author will discuss organizations status, organizations culture and why it is important, how the organization builds community, and how building community affects the organizational value. In closing the author will provide how if the organization has a strategic plan or organizational chart, and summarize the differences between the selected organizations.

National: Department of Human Services

There are different divisions and departments in the Department of Human Services that help things flow in an organizational manner. Chief of Staff, a number of Assistant Secretaries, Offices, and Operating Divisions are directly supported by the office of secretary. Some examples of these offices are the Office for Intergovernmental and External Affairs (IEA), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (ASH), and Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration (ASA). ("U.s. department of," 2011). The Department of Health and Human Services is funded by the President's 2012 Budget of $79.9 billion dollars to support the HHS mission. This department's budget is in need for sacrificing in specific areas in order to boost our nation's health and human services care. The HHS is taking on responsibilities through implementing the Affordable Care Act and reducing in areas such as Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, and Community Action Agencies. The Department of Human and Health Services is an organization that branches out to many fields in the agency. Some of the areas that are concentrated on by this organization is paying for performance of hospitals, physicians, Medicare advantage plans, home health agencies, and dialysis facilities. As a part of their mission, it's important for HHS to make sure that these areas are being invested into. ("Better health, better," 2011). There are many ways that the U.S Government Health and Human Services Department builds up the community. HHS and other federal agencies provide grants, benefit programs for individuals and families, loans, and contracting opportunities.(quote HHS.gov) The HHS has also granted their help for a program in ten states that gives family and care givers respite care so that they can take care of themselves as well their loved ones. With the help from the HHS to programs it helps the value of the organization rise. The more that the HHS helps out and continues to service the humans of the United States, the more our nation will continue to grow. The HHS has five goals with up to five objectives each in their strategic plan. According to the U.S Government Health and Human Services website the goals and some objectives are: "Goal 1: Strengthen Health Care with the objectives to Make coverage more secure for those who have insurance, and extend affordable coverage to the uninsured, Improve health care quality and patient safety, and Promote the adoption and meaningful use of health information technology. Goal 2: Advance Scientific Knowledge and Innovation with the objectives to Accelerate the process of scientific discovery to improve patient care, Foster innovation within HHS to create shared solutions, and Increase our understanding of what works in public health and human service practice. Goal 3: Advance the Health, Safety and Well-Being of the American People with the objectives to Promote the safety, well-being and healthy development of children and youth, Improve the accessibility and quality of supportive services for people with disabilities and older adults, Promote prevention and wellness, and Protect Americans' health and safety during emergencies, and foster resilience in response to emergencies. Goal 4: Increase Efficiency, Transparency, and Accountability of HHS Programs with the objectives to Ensure program integrity and responsible stewardship of resources, Use HHS data to improve the health and well-being of the American people, and Improve HHS environmental, energy, and economic performance to promote sustainability. Goal 5: Strengthen the Nation's Health and Human Service Infrastructure and Workforce with the objectives to Invest in the HHS workforce to meet America's health and human services needs today and tomorrow, Enhance the ability of the public health workforce to improve public health at home and abroad, Strengthen the Nation's human services workforce, and Improve national, state, and local surveillance and epidemiology capacity" (quote HHS.gov). These goals and objectives that are set have been given the accomplishment date to end in 2014.

State: American Cancer Society

A board of directors governs the American Cancer Society (ACS) structure. The board of directors is the deciding power over policy, strategic planning, obtain resources for the organization and is responsible for the performance of ACS. "The Society's Board of Directors is composed of 11 officers, 24 directors (12 medical professionals and 12 lay persons), and eight directors-at-large (four medical and four lay). Directors are elected for a two-year term and can serve a maximum of three two-year terms" ("American Cancer Society", 2012). Essentially, the board of directors determines the mission of the ACS and what it offers to individuals diagnosed with Cancer. The ACS offers support to individuals fighting cancer by helping them to stay healthy, identify cancer at the earliest stage possible, around the clock support in the time of need to combat cancer. ACS funds and conducts research to help find a cure for the prevention and curing of cancer. ACS offers many programs for cancer patients and their families' not only medically but also emotional support. There are currently over ten programs offered by the ACS to cancer patients and their families.
