SUMMARY
Nowadays students main obstacle is lack of experience. It’s a fact that Ozyegin University
graduates are well educated and they are working in well known companies. Due to those
facts, Ozyegin University students needs peer tutoring not only on the field experience but
also in education experience. For example, they need to be educated on how to cope with
midterms, quizzes and assignments. In today’s world, every innovation comes up with a
problem so we came out with a solution. Our solution is that we will reconstruct a room to
have meetings. In that room, graduates help students, answer their questions and even
come up with job opportunities. As a result, we planned this organization to form a
community that shares experiences, gives advices and guide students through their
education life. We plan to train mentors to provide best of their help to Ozyegin University
students. The forecasted budget of the project is approximately 28,835 Turkish Liras and we expect Ozyegin University to support this project.
INTRODUCTION
In today’s world, the main obstacle that all students have to cope with is lack of experience
and lack of guidance. Ozyegin University students also face this problem. Every single
individual can reach their goal if they have the right guidance and willingness. With that being said, the experiences of a student in the university play a significant role in a person’s life. In fact, it is said that This is the main reason why we created Ozyegin University Peer Mentoring Program. This program’s goal is to help freshman students with experienced graduated students as mentors. Mentors will give advice and and tell their experiences to freshman students. When students face any problem, they can easily ask or tell their problems to their mentors where they may be able to receive guidance. Freshmen may also be able to get to know more people from other departments as well as socialize more during their first year.
Also mentors will arrange workshops and talking sessions. One of the main problems that is faced is the fact that this program does not have a special room to complete these sessions at any requested time which affects the program poorly. To maintain these projects and events with full efficiency, the program aims to turn the classrooms to be able to be used for these events and sessions. We should make these classrooms interactive, functional, comfortable, capacious and innovative by accommodating more of the technological devices in them. Would a student prefer having a regular classroom with many advantages when they receive a workshop and a talking session or not having a specific classroom with many distractions? According to a study at Harvard University, it is very important to use accurate and efficient materials in the learning process.
As a result, the purpose of our proposal is to start Ozyegin University Peer Mentoring
Program where any freshman student will be able to receive guidance on any subject that
they do not have a knowledge of and experience the university life in a more fulfilled
environment. In order to receive this goal, after creating the program our aim is to use un-
used parts of the EF Building into more functional places where this program can also take a place in a more efficient area.
