W3C

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international organization that works toward the development of web standards. The purpose of the W3C is to create standards that make the web accessible to all people, no matter what kind of hardware, software, network, language, culture, location or mental or physical ability. They are administered by a joint effort among three institutions Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), The European Research Consortium for Informatics and mathematics (ERCIM) and Keio University. Tim Berners-Lee the inventor of the World Wide Web along with Dr. Jeffery Jaffe leads the W3C. However, the web community such as organization and individuals play a huge role in reviewing and providing input on the specifications created. W3C not only creates standards but also provide tutorials and tools for web professionals to hone their skills.

The W3C also provides tutorials and cheat sheets that clearly show the member how to implement standards so that they can create websites that anyone can access. A member can run a website through the service to make sure that the website is semantically correct.
