The definite coping strategy the nursing students utilize with emotional stress are reflection with previous life experiences, sharing of feelings with friends, study buddies, family or other significant others that one can comply with, engage with healthy stress-relieving strategy and seek of advice from university student counseling service. The coping strategy best suit the stress from school as students work hard for an examination, ensure to know the type of exam and the accompanied rules and regulations and adhere with it, plan sufficient hours of sleep in the days prior to the date of examination, devise carefully a focused revision plan, collaborate with study buddies and be always present in classes. Stress may interfere the ability of the students to learn and hinder their performance but through hard work, support from friends and other, engaging with university and adopting efficient learning strategies and succeed almost against all odds (Scullion et.al, 2007).
Having experienced the stress that these nursing students have felt during their freshmen years, the researchers have opted to do this research. There have been previous researches done on the stressors and coping strategies of other batches of freshmen nursing students who have different curriculum compared to the present curriculum. The researchers are also interested on determining the stressors and coping strategies of respondents from other nursing schools in Cavite. The assessment can help the researchers evaluate the effectiveness of different coping strategies utilized by the freshmen nursing students.
Other challenges of nursing educators to the students are development of autonomy specifically with coping to perception of stresses. Nursing educators must manifest the clinical expertise, effective teaching skill and motivation in order to be a good example to the students. (Quinn et al, 2007).
. These educators are eternal learners who help the learners to identify with the process of conceptual learning rather than with ideas or theories Nurse educators can also be an additional support to the learners in perceiving problems which includes the perceived stressors. (Clark, 2008).
Fortunately, stress can be lessened and even be prevented depending on how the students respond to these stressful experiences. Some coping strategies can be developed as a response to these stressors. The efforts of the persons through action and thought in dealing with demands which are perceived as overwhelming are known as coping (Wood, 2008).
Coping mechanisms are processes on how one adapts to new changes in life in terms of thoughts, behaviour, feelings and adjustments. There are two broad categories of coping strategies. These are the Problem-focused coping strategies and the Emotion- focused coping strategies.
