Riordan Manufacturing INDP, Part 3

Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. is fast growing company with four sites, three in America and one in China. The company needs to secure the companies hardware and software systems. Riordan will also be looking at the company's connections such as the local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and wireless technologies. Riordan will also be looking into the routers, switches, and cabling for data and communication networking. The companies need to have these things in place to have a production and secure business over the internet, through email system, and the company intranet.

Riordan do most of the company's business over the internet, therefore if the system is not secured the company private information can be leaked out to their competitors, this is called cybercrime. The internet and email can be very vulnerable for virus, spyware, and malware for a business. Several ways a company can protect their hardware and software listed below according to Cisco the Basic Securing My Business.

* E-business needs a secure foundation for transactions to be built.

* Make sure appropriate controls are in place for vendors and partners to have a good collaboration.

* Enhance your customer's experience by allowing them to access confidential information on your network that is applicable only to them and assuring customers that security solutions are in place to protect their vital data.

* Add new locations, branches, and offices quickly, without the need to worry about security or redesigning a security system from scratch.

Riordan will develop game plan for current and for the future. The network security is changing every day; virus, Trojan, malware, and spywares come out on daily basis. There is always someone on the outside trying to hack a company computer. That is why Riordan should implement some policy and procedures, have the company network automatically adapt to new and changing threats (Cisco, n.d.). Also Riordan can protect itself by having a safe email and internet browsing by filtering and web gateway, this will limit the employee access to the internet from going to websites that would comprise the company and distract the employee. These types of security are invisible and concealed from the employee.

Local area network (LAN) is a small network and services a small amount of people. The LAN also allows the users the share hardware and software auxiliary such as files, programs and printers (Richer, M. 1999). There is LAN called peer-to-peer that allow the user the owner to give permission to share files. One other LAN called client server where one or more machine do his or work. LAN is not a good choose for a company lack Riordan Manufacturing because it is a worldwide company and it need a larger network and network that can be secured and used at a larger range.

Wide area network (WAN) is a network larger geographical area, domestic and international. WAN is also a single cable connection to the router. This network would be good for Riordan because we service the world and their
