The American Revolution

The American Revolution changed American society very greatly, lasting from 1775-1800 it not only changed the country as a whole but also everyday lives. The thirteen colonies decided to ban together and break free from Great Britain. The war is also called the American Revolutionary War and the U.S War of Independence. The first battles in April 1775; Lexington and Concord started the war off. The colonists were unhappy about the way that they were being treated by their "Mother Country". They were fed up with being taken advantage of, and drained of the few wealth and resources they had. The Americans were definitely as trained or disciplined as the British army but they had the French to assist with the war for independence. Even though the colonies were not always on the same page, this war brought them together and produced a strong united force.

There were many effects from the American Revolution besides just independence. Political, social, and economic effects were also a result of the war. There were may social effects that concerned the everyday citizen. Document B says that you should banish every Tory from among you, and that they should be sent to Britain. So that they could never taste the sweets of independence. People were not very happy with the Tories after the revolution had began. They thought of them as traitors. After the revolution they were most likely stripped of their property and driven into exile. In Document D the general Assembly had decided that no person should have to be forced to support any religion or ministry, and that you had the right to opinion in the matters of religion. Considering that religious tensions were the biggest reason for people to make the journey over to the americas, there were many different religions all of well supported congregations. Document H states that "There shall be neither slavery nor involuntary servitude in the said territory." The past statement came from An Ordinance for the Government of the Territory of the United States Northwest of the River Ohio. The colonists have always pushed for expansion of the borders. After the revolutionary war they not only expand westward but also south, obtaining land from Spain and France. Document J came from Molly Wallace, from the Young Ladies' Academy of Philadelphia. New England had always stressed education even from the beginning. Education had always been bigger up north than in the south. Molly Wallace was talking about how females writing and speaking still would get many sarcastic comments, and that just because we are female we don't have the same rights to express our positions on important topics. It will be years before women get not only the rights, but recognition that they are able to do the things men can, and that they should be considered more than just a housewife or a mother. Even after separating from Britain, we still had some faults in our government. We did have the Declaration
