3F1- AB PSYCHOLOGY

The Help

1.)

From the movie, there was a particular scene where Hilly, a lady who is the leader of the fellow bridge club members and Junior League, believes that the black people carry different kinds of diseases and thus, she insisted that it is a must for the white families to build a separate bathroom for “the help.” Her fellow members of the said club did not gave any complaints and did not speak out at all. Also, the members did not show high level of agreeableness with regards to Hilly’s idea as well. The only thing that the members have shown is that they were simply going along with the way things are, the possible reason for them to go with the flow is because of what they were made to believe in when they were young and by the time they grow, thus they unconsciously got their belief that is why they seem to follow and consider the suggestion of Hilly. I can conclude that they cannot be assumed easily as being prejudiced or racist towards the black citizens for they were not given more timeframes from the entire film.

2.)

Since Hilly wanted to implement from their town that there should be a separate toilet for the help, it already shows the inhumanity on how a person treats another individual in accordance with the color of a person when in fact, it should not be the case for we are all created by God as equal, and we must be treated alike. But in Hilly’s case, she did not want the black people to be given the same treatment. Moreover, the idea of the white people to be dominant with the black people worsened when there came the scene of a black maid who was beaten up by the police just because she was told that she stole Hilly’s jewel accessory. With all of the unfair treatments being given have resulted for Skeeter, a young, educated liberal looking to change things, or at least question why those things exist, that is why she then have had the urge to write a book together with Aibileen and Minny and afterwards, some of the other helpers as well. As the movie goes further, there shows the fact that one must never let others degrade them. Somehow, the “helpers” managed to have more confidence and fighting spirit from themselves and they were able to really stand up from their feet.
