Accountability in the Army is key essential to having a good military career. It is a value that all soldiers should have for he/she can be relied on to show up on time and get the job done on time. If your battle buddy can't count on you to get something done or atleast show up on time then you are failing your team and duty. Soldiers have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, therefore your team leader or NCO should know your where about at all times. Accountability is a major factor to discipline. Being a soldier you have to take full responsibility for your actions and be willing to accept the consequences for disobeying the rules. Without even realizing, people are using accountability from the day you are born. When I was a little kid I used to take accountability for all my toys, growing up I was taking accountability for all my clothes, and now as an adult in the military I myself is being accounted for. If you want to become a good leader how can you plan an action if you don't even know where your troop is? What happens when you conduct a movement then realize you are missing a few people? That's why every soldier has to be accountable for themselves, their equipment, and sometimes even for their battle buddies. As a soldier moves up in rank, so does the level of responsibility for accountability. For example; a First Sergeant isn't going to go from PVT to PVT seeing if they are accounted for. It is the NCO's job to know their soldiers whereabouts.
