1. Discuss the relationship between Charles Banks and the Clark family of Mississippi.

In the book “A Chief Lieutenant of the Tuskegee Machine” Charles Banks and the Clark family was very close. The Clark family wasn’t like the rest of the workers; they were able to bring their children to work with them. He showed appreciation towards them. In Mississippi, whites and blacks weren’t as close, but Charles had conversations about how his relationship was with his white friends. When Charles Banks was in school, the Clark family helped him out financially. He also learned about entrepreneur and business from the Clarks.

2. Define the old Negro elite.

The Old Negro elite were a group put together of black people in the old days. Anybody just couldn’t be a part of the Old Negro elite, you had to get accepted. The criteria to be a part of the group were education, skin color, how wealthy you were and also occupation. Their family had a big part to being a part of this group, if their family was free or fought against slavery and also made names for themselves were a part. In the group many of them were wealthy and light skinned blacks.

3. Define the New Negro elite.

The New Negro elite were another group put together for blacks in the old days. This group was different from the Old Negro elite. This particular group was only for self-made men and women. They didn’t have as much education as the Old Negro elite individuals. Being wealthy weren’t really a big deal as it was in the Old Negro elite group. Charles Banks looked at himself as New Negro elite because he wanted to be different from his parents, who were considered as the Old Negro elite group.
