Time to Speak Up
In the documentary, Al Gore comes up with the biggest threat to our planet; global warming. In the movie Gore explains the situation with the graphics that show us how bad it is now. His main point is to get people's attention and make them more aware about global warming. Lots of people in the world do not even know what global warming is or what can it do to human being and our planet in next fifty years. If we do not speak up now and take action to solve this problem, it will be too late in next couple years. Personally, before watching the movie, I did not know too much about global warming. I knew that it was a big threat but I did not do too much to help to save our planet. We need to speak up and take action to save our earth that we and children live in.
Let's get started with the danger. What is global warming? The idea that Al Gore wants to point out is to make people learn what global warming. It's obvious that global warming is exists. Global warming is an increase in average temperature in the earth's atmosphere. It's rising due to the burning of fossils fuels and other forms of energy. As Al Gore said in the documentary, it happens when greenhouse gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide trap heat and light from the sun in the earth's atmosphere. If we decide to think about the reasons, we should not look further away. It's us, human beings that are doing this to our earth. The people living on this earth, is causing global warming. When fuels burned, carbon dioxide is made. The carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is rising day by day as a result of the manufacturing. Another cause is that, when people add more and more greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, the increase causes global warming as well. The other reason is population. As population keeps rising, we are putting more pressure to the earth. The population grew 6 billion over 50 years. In another words, it means more burning fuels, more manufacturing and much more carbon dioxide. That's just what makes it worse.
This documentary should be a wakeup call for everybody. We should encourage people, such as family and friends, to watch the documentary on global warming. Now, it's time to do something beneficial for the earth. We, as individuals, should consider making changes in our lives to reduce global warming. There might be thousands of things that might help to decrease the numbers. Nobody needs to be superman to save the earth. For example, everybody should recycle. Let's start with buying products that we are able to recycle. Instead of throwing unwanted or used papers, plastic or cans in the garbage, put them in recycling box. We should buy things with minimum packaging as well. In New York, there are couple supermarket's that give special offers to customers who refuse to take a plastic shopping bag. It's not only helpful for the environment but it also helps the economy. Another thing that might help is, changing a light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb which will save massive amount of electricity and huge amount of money. Everybody should consider using public transportation or walking and bicycling. It's not only the gasoline that we would save, it's also opens a door for a healthy life. When driving a car, we should keep our tires inflated. It helps to save gasoline which means keeping pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. The other way to reduce the global warming is to save electricity in workplace or house by turning off the lights when we leave the room or switching off the computer. Everybody should unplug their television, computer etc. when they are not home. By just unplugging the electrical stuff, we can save lots of electricity. We should also
