CASE STUDY 17-1

As a new intern at a small self-operated university food service program called Campus Food System (CFS), Cindy Breen has been charged to prepare Work Accidents in the Food service Areas with minimizing the severity and quantity of health, safety incidents over the previous year. She contemplates how to handle this situation, after that, she should " prepare the report including all incident reports, previously unreported accidents, and Ricki's serious illness" (Ivancenich, 2010, p.565) and give the complete report to Fred White, CFS director and her supervisor.

Her supervisor, Jake, asks her to make the report's statistics appear the real. It is a plan to challenge Cindy in terms of ethicality and he emphasizes that her grade and would-be job opportunities will be affected by her report. In disregard of this, she needs to act with integrity to stick the truth and transparency in an honest report. Following Jake's advice suitable for a short range solution, there is no correspondence when there are 46 safety incidents and one health incident amongst 160 employess. It is necessary for CFS to create a long-term approach in order to solve this problem, plus Cindy's report can be a radical stimulus for changing the CFS current safety.

If the company continues operating as its currently, the results will be injuriuos to CFS because safety will not be focus on . The company may suffer fianancial losses, possible takeover, facility dowgrading, increase costs and turnover in order to low morale amongst employees, equipment break down and also the possibility of OSHA fines.

In requires Cindy to submit a factual report of her findings and a Safety Program proposal to deal with incidents and making the reports realated them. Awareness of these problems, senior leadership support about training and equipment that could reduce the frequency and severity of CFS' incidents.

To catch up with procedures, resources of information is a necessary condition to use what happened and the case of injuries for making a report . It is inconvenience to lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In addition, employees needs to be trained how to use these equipments. Quarterly training in using should be carried out all equipment. The training goes from theoretical part with basic knowledge to practical one
