"Lies and Loved Ones"

Can you remember the last time someone lied to you? How about the last time you lied to someone? Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why? There are several different reasons why people lie. Sometimes, we lie to protect people or ourselves and sometimes we tell lies to impress people. Regardless of the reason, lying can have negative consequences to us and third parties.

It doesn't matter if the lie is a little white lie or a brutal lie, it is still a lie and it can still affect people negatively. Sometimes, we tell lies in order to protect someone we care about or to keep ourselves out of trouble. Teenagers lie to their parents about where they are going, who they are with, or even how much homework they have in order to stay out of trouble. Sometimes, we lie to our significant others about that one secret phone call last night. Although we think we're being sly, parents and significant others will eventually find out the truth and trust issues are created. If you lie in any relationship, there is no trust. That is a serious consequence of lying.

People lie to impress other people. This usually occurs in adolescents. They want to seem "cool" to their peers. Kids care a lot, sometimes too much about what other people think of them. Once these people find out the truth, they will no longer be impressed with that person and they might not want to be their friend anymore
