Proposal for Purchase

Purpose

I am writing to propose a solution to a problem in my unit. The problem is that many soldiers in my unit do not have there on work station and have to use other soldiers work station to complete their work task. I recommend that you order new laptops and new software to be used for each soldier. I hope that you will approve this proposal and get the workstations (laptops) ordered this week. Ordering new laptops and software will improve each soldier job performance and readiness.

The Problem with Current Workstations

Currently, each soldier in the unit has a class to prepare for upcoming training. There are 10 soldiers in each section and we have 4 sections in the unit. We do not have enough workstations for each soldier in the unit. The workstations we have are the same ones that we have been using for many years. The information in each laptop is outdated. We also do not have updated software to update the old computers. The program that we have doesn't work most of the time and is also very outdated.

Another problem with these laptops is that the information on them is very basic. The computers do not include windows software or java applications. We use computers in everything we do now days in this unit and the military.

The workstations we are currently using are very slow and locks up at times. While on mission each soldier will use their computers every day. We need to purchase computers that would help our progress until the next mission. This way, soldiers could pick up where they left off each mission. The current workstations and software doesn't do this.

A Solution to the Problem

The purchase of new laptops and software will benefit each soldier and the unit. I propose that we order laptops and software from Dell Computer Company. I have worked with two other units that used this Company. These units were 157th INF BDE and 4th ID. The Commanders at both of these units agree that this company is a good choice. It is very up-to-date and it is also challenging and fun for the soldiers. Some software that comes with the computers is called Word.

This is an excellent choice for a computer and software combination. The Dell Computer Company is integrated. The soldiers are able to complete their task with the new computers and software.

The software is easy to use and install. Soldiers will have their own password and screen name. Soldier's progress will be saved each day. The wonderful part is that the soldiers can continue the work from day to day. They would no longer have to share workstations.
