Advantages and Disadvantages of Information

One advantage to easily obtainable information is convenience. It is convenient for some to go to one site and find the most current news, while chatting with various friends at the same time. It is less difficult than reading a newspaper, watching TV, and having a telephone conversation at the same time to achieve the same results. It permits a person to multi-task and carry out those duties in a brief amount of time accepting the public's impatient personality. A disadvantage to easily obtainable information is when very important or delicate information becomes obtainable when it should not be. It is bad when someone is using social media and finds out horrible news about a friend or family member. Not all news ought to travel quick and be easily within reach.

Social media provides an unmatched amount of personal information in actual time from anywhere. It is used to allow consumers to keep in touch with family and friends all over the world. Social media has allowed news to be circulated through many key channels almost immediately. Different perspectives on an event can be aired concurrently. Bloggers are also hired on as free lance sources of real time news. One major concern of social media is that there is not enough research being done on some of the stories and news that is being released to the public. There are no longer deadlines as with print, there is a more "Who's going to release this information first?" Details are often inaccurate because of releasing information prematurely. There is also a lack of privacy with the use of social media. With the creation of MySpace and Facebook many people live their lives online. Everything one says or does is documented online. Also, in many instances companies will back their databases on a remote server or outlet, hackers are able to access any information once they have penetrated a firewall.

Using Social Media

Understanding the advantages and disadvantages of social media can change the way one uses it in several ways. Being aware of how a community of followers can enhance sales of a business with free advertisement may persuade a person to utilize it as a tool than for personal pleasure. The disadvantage of lack of enthusiasm and bullying can make one use social media in a more private way. Most social networking sites allow people to choose what information and photos are to be viewed by the open public. This is a helpful feature in changing how a person utilizes social media.
