A paragraph and an essay are introduced to children between the first and the second grade. When writing a paragraph compared to an essay one must remember the basic rules. Paragraphs and essays require a certain amount of organization and planning your thoughts before you begin to write. Remember when writing that a paragraph is shorter and an essay is more in depth. Both state your main ideas and use effective expression. Effective expression use precise words which can be found in a thesaurus. Logical order can be found in both paragraph and essay. Patterns of organization, space order, time order, and order of importance will be explained as levels of information and parts of a paragraph and parts of an essay.

A paragraph has a topic sentence. A topic sentence is the subject in which determines the course of the paragraph. For example, today I will demonstrate how to plant a tree. The paragraph only relays information about planting a tree. The three levels of information needed for a paragraph area main idea, major details, and minor details. The main idea starts as the topic sentence. Always, explaining the writer's main point about the subject. Minor details explain main idea, supports main idea, and also, more general, than a minor detail. The minor detail explains major detail, provides secondary support and most specific idea of a paragraph.

A paragraph is divided into three parts which consist of the introduction, the body, and the conclusion. The introduction prepares the readers with a brief description as to the contents of the paragraph. The body explains in more detail while supporting the introduction of the paragraph. The conclusion of the paragraph reiterates the writers purpose of the message, touches on topic discussed, and ties the paragraph together with a ending.

A thesis statement is related ideas that develop and support a writer's points about a given topic. There are four levels of information that's used in building an essay. The four levels are primary, secondary, major, and minor. A primary is the main idea with supports the topic sentence in your essay. The secondary details reinforce as well as, support the main ideas. Major details and the minor details reinforce the information given in essay. Major and minor details generally support each other.

An essay is built on five parts which in tale the title, introduction paragraph, thesis statement, body paragraph, and the conclusion. The title introduces the topic of the essay. Generally, the title of an essay is worded in a way to jumpstart the reader, to want to read more. Introduction paragraph generally begins with a bold statement intended to hook the reader. The introduction will end with the thesis statement which will state the topic on an essay. The body of an essay contains several paragraphs which contain a more detailed explanation
