 The world today has become heavily involved with improving technology. There are new inventions every day to help improve the way people live. It has helped us achieve many things as a country and helped us become the most advanced country in the world. Technology is helpful in many aspects. For example in health care we have created new devices and medicines and as a result people live longer healthier lives. Another example is with electronics such as phones, computers, T.V's, and gaming machines. Many people see technology as a great thing but sometimes it can be harmful. 
 As Americans we have let technology take over society. Children now instead of going outside and playing are staying inside to watch T.V and playing video games. This has caused an increase in obesity in people of all ages. We have become lazy and look for the easiest way to get things done. For example you can have a full meal prepared in a couple of minutes that use to take people hours to make. We buy everything from stores instead of having to make it for ourselves. Everything is made differently now as well, food is processed and lasts a lot longer than fresh food does. This is a good thing for companies but it also means it is not as healthy for you, because it causes people to eat junk foods instead of getting fresh foods that go bad faster and cost more.
 Communication between people has changed in many ways because of technology as well. It started as having to write letters and it taking weeks, months, or years to communicate with someone. Now someone can send a text or email and the person receiving it can get it in a matter of seconds. In cases of emergencies it is helpful to be able to seek help fast. If you have a family member or loved one that is far away from you, you can still communicate with them and see them. For example "Skype" and "FaceTime" are new inventions that have allowed people to see each other even if you are not with them. For soldiers overseas they can still see their families while they are gone. While these are all good things there are many downfalls to this technology. Grammar and spelling in younger generations is becoming worse in texting and emails. People do not use capitalization or punctuation. The most important thing to people is getting things done as fast as possible instead of worrying about how correct it is. Grammatically, this is also why people have begun abbreviating words and using symbols. Once again, it is easier for us to be lazy and use the easy way out instead of taking the time to do it right. 
 Overall, I think there is always positive and negative to every new technology. It can be helpful or harmful depending on the way people choose to use it. I believe that people need to be less dependent on technology and only use it as a tool to help them when needed instead of making it a necessity.
