Reflective essay

In this essay I'm going to reflect on my learning in block one I will be covering learning styles communication skills, team work. I will I reflect on my learning experience, long and short term goals .I will follow on to describe the tools used to analyse my current strengths weaknesses (swot analysis) (see appendix 7) self-reflection is important because it helps me toimprove previous experiences and make them better in future I will also Reflect on the progress made in objectives you set in PDP.

During my first week we covered key skills. I completed a mock test in numeracy which revealed I was lacking knowledge in maths (see appendix 1) this did not surprise me as maths is my one of weaknesses i did this by using swot analysis (see appendix) . Having low self-efficacy contributed to my failure in the test, Bandura (1974) states " self-efficacy is a person's belief in his or her ability to succeed in a particular situation". The results assisted me to recognise the importance of numeracy skills in order to work effective in the future. Therefore one of my short term objectives for my PDP was to improve my numeracy skills to able me achieve this goal I downloaded maths past papers on BBC Bite size. (see appendix2). I also drew myself a time table to practice twice a week two hours per day ( time table see appendix 3) .how ever I found it hard to follow through my actions as got distracted by friends and lack of concentration , I managed to overcome this barrier by finding a quiet place like the library were I went to study this solution proved to be very effective seeing other students studying motivated me to do the same. now I'm more confident and determine to achieve numeracy skills by the end of term. Achieving this goal will make it easier for me to getting into university as i will write a maths entry exam knowledge of numeracy skills will also benefit me as an O.T as its essential for me to have this skill in terms of analysing patients progress with line graphs, percentages, line graphs and so forth I will continuously practice numeracy.

Upon completing my numeracy test on my first week I will also reflect on my literacy mock test which I found very easy managed to pass(see appendix 4) , however I realised my grammar was very poor , this was because in school I was diagnosed with dyslexia. My dyslexia results to writing and spelling problems, I have always ignored this barrier ignored did not do anything about it.

recently I have noticed that my grammar is getting worse as I straggled writing and structuring my report and furthermore my teacher made a point of how poor my grammar and sentence structure were in my report this resulted in me losing marks . the points that my teacher mentioned made it clear that I had to make it my priority to do something about my dyslexia if I wanted to pass my course and progress. whithin my PDP I set a goal to improve this by learning a new word from dictionary every day, (see appendix 5)downloading audio book and listen to one chapter a day I hope to achieve this goal by the end of term achieving this it will help me to write formally in university and get more marks , in my future carrier I will require good written communication as I will writing up care plans.

Even though I have dyslexia I have benefited the knowledge gained from completing honey and following a self-assessment on learning styles. which indicated that I'm a visual learner (see appendix 6).reflecting on this I have noticed that I use colour in my work, I prefer looking at pictures when reading, for instance I managed learn the bible by reading the children's bible as I by just looking at words in the normal bible , for these reasons and more I strongly agree with the results ,finding out about learning styles made my learning experience easier because now lm reading more by buying books with pictures and using colours paper to write on and marker pen to highlight important information . I am now starting to learn effectively by using visual learning according to Tate (2011) "Learning style understands how people learn fundamentally delivering desirable content, a prerequisite of any good user experience." on the other hand Greenfield (2007) states " the method of classifying pupils on the basis of "learning styles" is a waste of valuable time and resources." Regardless of Greenfield's interpretation my personal experience of using visual styles helped me to understand content covered in class using pictures on PowerPoint This made me realise that I have to use all the style to learnt effectively as of now I will be using visual while learning how to use the other three styles. Whilst I appreciate understanding my learning style I recognised the importance of developing in the other area to become a full rounded
