Part I:

        From my understanding, the book provides the information and education on how information technology can aid and improve every aspect of a business. From decision making, competitive advantage, support systems, etc. It provides thorough explanations to help better understand how each concept of the book affects the different aspects you will encounter in the business environment.

        The book is broken up into three modules. Module 1 discusses Business Driven MIS. This module starts by breaking down the core of the information age, it explains how the different areas of business use information systems to communicate effectively.  It introduces several different models while breaking each down, and explaining the effectiveness of certain models that pertain to competitiveness of a business. The book also explains how technology can affect decision making skills, how managers measure the success of MIS projects, different operational support systems, managerial support systems and strategic (how managers can use these systems to make decisions and gain comp. advantage). And then the module concludes with the various different ethics policies and security policies needed to protect any business that utilizes information technology.

        Module 2 pertains to the Technical Foundations of MIS. Breaking down the types, areas, characteristics and benefits of the MIS infrastructure. Explaining the values of information, databases, advantages of the different databases, and how they support decision making. Wireless networking applications and advantages for businesses.

        Module 3 explains how Enterprise MIS  are used to run daily operations, how they can be used to support global business, challenges associated with that process, supply chain management, and overall how businesses build their information systems. It breaks it down to understand how and why information systems are the foundation of operations.

        Separately all three modules explain in detail the different areas listed and how they affect a business. From needing to understand the different areas, how they affect different business, and how a business can use them to their advantage. Each topic in the book covered helps to better understand information systems and how to utilize the different aspects to a business’s advantage. Whether that means to get ahead of the competition or how a business’s employees can be more successful by using information systems to communicate more effectively. Thus allowing the business to thrive. I have always felt communication within a business is crucial to its success. Any breakdown in communication, can ultimately lead to a business’s failure. The provided learning materials helps to reaffirm what I have always believe.
